As you may have noticed I've been sick the entire last week which is also why, I haven't been blogging. Sorry about that - but on the other hand I was able to watch a lot of tv shows and play a whole lot of 3DS XL. The game I've been spending most of my time on is The Sims 2: Castaway - hint the headline :-) And I will now give you guys my take on the game although it's not a new game. I think it's from 2007 or 2008 and is therefore originally made for Nintendo DS but as you know it's possible to play DS games on a 3DS but not the other way around.
The Plot
In Castaway you're stranded on a deserted island and your main goal is to escape. You can choose to play as a woman or a man whose hair is either short or long and black or blonde. You can also choose if you want to wear shorts or trousers and top or blouse and of course you can make up your own name for your new Sim. But that's about it. It's not like in the regular game where it's almost possible to play as a true copy of yourself. Well, almost - you get my drift.
The Game
When you've chosen and "customized" your Sim the game begins. You need to make a connection to the other Sims on the island in order to complete the game (cause they each have a piece of a map you'll need to escape the island). And in order to do that, you'll of course have to make conversation, but you must also help them complete different tasks that mainly consists of trading items among them, go fishing and harvest fruits and vegetables. There's of course still the 'tamagotchi' aspect of the game so your Sims will have to be well rested, fed and so one whilst you try to complete the various tasks. There's also some secondary objectives which are kind of annoying and which I think you're not going to complete. Not cause they're especially hard but because there especially boring and indifferent. I mean, who wants to play the fishing minigame for hours just to capture a random Marlin, which you then can make a potion out of, which you then can make a stew out of, which you then can trade for a random pieces of clothes, which is totally useless. Some of the other mini games consists of temple hunting, raw food making, painting, bug collecting etc. and they are not as exciting as they may sound like.
Conclusion
When you've played the game for 5-8 hours, I think, you'll have completed it. And that would of course be fine if the sidequests were fun and could keep you entertained for an extra couple of hours. The graphic is horrible. I know it's an old game, but still. I've played games from 2004 prettier than this one. I think it's kind of a joke to make this game into a whole DS game. It would more likely be suitable for a mobile game or an extension to a DS game, if that existed, and it's a shame cause I like the concept. I was actually hoping for a game like Virtual Villagers if you are familiar with that PC-series. I'm glad I only paid like $13 for the game but if I had a choice I would still return it and get my money back. I think it's hard to find a nice game for my 3DS. That's why I'm trying out my luck with DS games. So far the only games that has satisfied me is, of course, Zelda (all of them) and Professor Layton and The Miracle Mask. I'm therefore very much open for any recommendations. But I'm not into RPG games and I know a lot of the good ones are RPG. Anywho, please leave a comment if something comes to your mind.
That's all from me. And as you may also have noticed I now only write my posts in english (this being the first). I'm not fluent but I'm trying my best so please bear with me for any misspellings and grammatical mistakes. When I've got the time I'll definitely translate all my other posts into plain english cause the majority of my reader are based in the US.
P.S The gameplay is different on PC and consoles. //
